NDMA issues flood alert for July 19-25 due to monsoon rains

Islamabad (Web Desk): The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an alert for potential flood situations across various parts of the country from July 19 to 25 due to ongoing monsoon rains.

According to the NDMA notification, intermittent rains are expected in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa until July 25, which may cause flooding in the Kabul, Swat, Panjkora, Kalpani Nala, and Bara Nala rivers. Additionally, there is a risk of flooding and landslides in areas such as Nowshera, Malakand, Swat, Dir, and the upper hilly regions.

The notification further highlights that heavy rainfall is expected in several cities of Islamabad and Punjab, including Rawalpindi, Lahore, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Multan, Khanewal, Sahiwal, Muzaffargarh, Kot Addu, Tunza, Rajanpur, Bahawalpur, and Rahim Yar Khan. Flooding risks are particularly high in low-lying areas, including Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Multan.

Sindh, including Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Jacobabad, Thatta, Badin, Larkana, Jamshoro, Nawabshah, and Mirpur Khas, is also expected to experience rainfall, increasing the chances of flooding in urban areas, and the accumulation of water on roads, streets, and underpasses.

NDMA has advised citizens to avoid crossing fast-flowing streams, bridges, and waterlogged roads, and urged residents of low-lying areas to move valuables and livestock to safe locations in anticipation of the floods.

The NDMA, along with other relevant authorities, is closely monitoring the situation and ensuring timely actions to minimize damage.
