Rawalpindi (Staff Report): US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad on Wednesday met Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa, said an Inter-Services Public Relations press release.
Matters related to regional stability and Afghan peace process were discussed in the meeting, Pak army’s media cell added.
The US envoy appreciated Pakistan’s role in the Afghan peace process, the PR read.
On Tuesday, Prime Minister Imran Khan said Pakistan has helped in the dialogue between Taliban and the United States in Abu Dhabi.
“Pakistan has helped in the dialogue between Taliban and the US in Abu Dhabi. Let us pray that this leads to peace and ends almost three decades of suffering of the brave Afghan people. Pakistan will be doing everything within its power to further the peace process,” the premier said in a tweet.
On Monday, Representatives from the Afghan Taliban met officials from the United States in the United Arab Emirates, in another bid to find shared ground to end the 17-year war in Afghanistan. The meeting also included representatives from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and UAE.
