PMD issues Nullah Lai flood alert as water levels surge amid heavy rains in Rawalpindi, Islamabad 

Rawalpindi (Web Desk): Torrential rainfall in Rawalpindi and Islamabad caused a sharp rise in water levels in Nullah Lai, prompting authorities to issue an evacuation alert for residents of low-lying areas as the situation grew increasingly critical.

Rain began around 11:30 pm on Tuesday and resumed in the morning, resulting in a rapid increase in the water level of Nullah Lai.

According to the Flood Control Room, the water level at Kattarian reached 21.5 feet, while it rose to 16 feet at Gawalmandi, with the level continuing to climb.

Warning sirens were sounded in low-lying areas along Nullah Lai. Authorities issued an alert for vulnerable areas around Kattarian, while a pre-alert was announced for Gawalmandi. Residents of affected localities were advised to move to safer locations as a precautionary measure.

As per the repotrs, 66 millimetres of rain was recorded in Saidpur, 65mm in Bokra, 58mm each at the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) and Pirwadhai, 52mm each in Golra and New Kattarian, 48mm in Shamsabad and 47mm in Kacheri.
