At UN, Pakistan reaffirms steadfast support for independent Palestinian state

New York (Web Desk): Pakistan has reaffirmed steadfast support for the creation of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state.

In his address to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Pakistan’s permanent representative, Asim Iftikhar, affirmed that Islamabad voted in favor of the resolution backing the Gaza peace plan and welcomed US President Donald Trump’s initiative aimed at resolving the long-standing conflict.

The Pakistani envoy stressed that Pakistan’s primary concern is to stop the ongoing killings of innocent Palestinians in Gaza.

He highlighted that sustainable peace in the Middle East cannot be achieved without the backing and involvement of the Palestinian people.

He also expressed gratitude to the Security Council for approving the resolution, reaffirming Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to stand by the Palestinians.

The resolution, which was passed earlier this week, received support from 13 countries, including Pakistan, with no votes against it, while Russia and China abstained from voting.

After the adoption of the resolution, the US envoy thanked Pakistan, Egypt, Qatar, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Turkey, and Indonesia, describing the decision as “historic and constructive” and emphasizing its importance for bringing stability to Gaza.

Key points of the resolution include the deployment of an international stabilization force in Gaza and the establishment of an interim government.

However, Palestinian resistance groups, including Hamas, have rejected the resolution.

Hamas argued that the resolution fails to represent the legitimate rights and demands of Palestinians and effectively places Gaza under international oversight.

The group further insisted that humanitarian aid should be distributed by Palestinian institutions under UN supervision to ensure it reaches those who need it most in a transparent manner.
