Pakistan strongly condemns drone attack on UAE's nuclear power plant

Islamabad (Web Desk): Pakistan on Monday strongly condemned the drone strike that targeted the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant in the United Arab (UAE) Emirates on Sunday, while also expressing complete solidarity with the Emirati people and the government.

In a statement, Foreign Office Spokesperson Tahir Andrabi, described the deliberate targeting of nuclear facilities as a serious breach of international law, including international humanitarian law, the United Nations (UN) Charter, and the globally recognised standards of nuclear safety and security outlined in the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Statute and relevant resolutions.

“Nuclear installations must never be targeted under any circumstances. Such reckless actions carry potentially catastrophic and irreversible consequences for human life, the environment, and regional as well as global peace and security,” Andrabi said.

He further highlighted that civilian nuclear infrastructure enjoys a well-established status of inviolability under international norms, which must be respected at all times without exception.

Reiterating Pakistan’s stance, Andrabi called on all parties involved to exercise utmost restraint, fully comply with their obligations under international and humanitarian law, and avoid any measures that could worsen tensions or expand the scope of instability beyond the immediate region.

“Dialogue and diplomacy, consistent with the principles and purposes of the United Nations Charter, remain the only viable path toward lasting peace, stability, and de-escalation in the region,” the FO statement said.
