Lodhran (Web Desk): Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif distributed laptops and merit scholarships among students belonging to the Multan and Bahawalpur divisions during a ceremony held in Lodhran, reinforcing the provincial government’s emphasis on education and digital empowerment.
The ceremony was arranged to acknowledge academic achievement while extending technological support to students across Punjab.
On the occasion, the chief minister handed over laptops to 9,005 outstanding students enrolled in public sector institutions, including 1,295 from government colleges, 6,655 from universities, and 1,055 studying in medical and dental colleges.
Addressing the students, Maryam Nawaz said that investing in education and technology is the most effective way to strengthen the country’s youth. She stressed that access to modern digital tools is essential for enabling students to compete successfully in today’s fast-changing, knowledge-driven world.
The laptop distribution is part of the Punjab Laptop Scheme 2025, which was formally launched in September. The scheme was approved to provide laptops to students of public sector institutions throughout the province, with the objective of promoting digital literacy and improving academic standards.
As per the officials, the initiative places special focus on supporting students from less privileged backgrounds by reducing the digital divide.
The laptops will help students take full advantage of online learning opportunities, academic research, and virtual classrooms.
In addition to expanding access to technology, the program is designed to encourage merit by rewarding strong academic performance.
Authorities stated that linking achievement with technological incentives will inspire students to excel in their studies and adapt to modern educational requirements.
This latest phase follows earlier efforts under similar programs, including the distribution of 14,000 laptops in Lahore.
