Delft, Netherlands (Web Desk): A graduate student Alec Momont of TU Delft and Industrial Design Engineer Samy Andary have designed an autopilot, autonomously navigating mini aeroplane, dubbed as ‘Ambulance Drone’, that can deliver a defibrillator to wherever it is needed as quickly as possible.
According to foreign media, Ambulance Drone can travel in the air at the speed of 100 km/h, hence significantly increase the chance of survival following a cardiac arrest from 8% to 80%. Speedy emergency response can prevent deaths, especially from cardiac arrest, drowning and traumas.
The ‘defibrillator’ drone is made to provide immediate medical aid and can save lives in such a situation where an ambulance gets stuck in traffic.
The Ambulance Drone has a compact design toolbox which contains essential supplies for life support. It can carry compact designed lifesaving technologies like Automated External Defibrillator (AED), medication or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) aids.
The first prototype of the drone is focused on delivering an Automated Defibrillator (AED).
Foreign media reported that the main reason behind high number of casualties of heart diseases is due to slow turnaround time (TAT) of emergency services.
