Chakwal firing incident: post-mortem report reveals 11 gunshot marks on 9-year-old girl

Chakwal (Web Desk): The post-mortem report of nine-year-old Hania Adeel, who was killed in a firing incident involving Crime Control Department (CCD) personnel in Chakwal on June 10, has confirmed that she sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

According to the medical report, 11 bullet entry and injury marks were found on her body. The bullets caused extensive damage to vital organs, including the heart, liver, lungs, chest, and abdomen.

Doctors stated that all gunshots were fired before the child’s death, adding that the severity and depth of the injuries indicate they would have caused immediate death.

The Australian-Pakistani family was visiting Chakwal on holiday when CCD officials allegedly mistook their vehicle for that of suspected robbers and opened fire. The child was critically injured and died on the spot.

The report further noted that six to eight hours had passed between the child’s death and the post-mortem examination. Hospital authorities preserved blood-stained clothing, X-rays, and other forensic evidence before handing them over to police.

Punjab Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb termed the incident tragic, stating it occurred due to a “misunderstanding” during an anti-robbery operation.

She said the inquiry into the incident has been completed and the findings have been submitted to Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.

Aurangzeb added that the CCD chief will hold a press briefing to share details of the incident with the public.

Meanwhile, the Lahore High Court has directed that a petition seeking a judicial inquiry be heard along with the main case.

Earlier, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese had urged Pakistan to ensure a transparent investigation.

The CCD official involved in the incident is currently in judicial custody.
