California (Web Desk): Google has launched an innovative AI-powered image editing tool called “Nano Banana” within its Gemini app and website, marking a significant step in competing with ChatGPT. This launch coincides with the growing popularity of AI-driven 3D figurine trends, which have helped propel the tool’s viral success.
Released at the end of August 2025, Nano Banana enables users to effortlessly transform their photos in creative and surprising ways. From visualizing different paint colors on walls to trying out retro 1960s fashion looks or forecasting future facial wrinkles, the editor offers a wide range of possibilities.
According to Josh Woodward, Vice President of Gemini and Google Labs, the introduction of Nano Banana led to a remarkable surge of 23 million new users in just two weeks. During this period, users edited over 5 billion images using the platform.
The Gemini app quickly became the most downloaded application across major markets including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, France, Australia, Germany, Italy, and India, surpassing ChatGPT, which now ranks second.
Due to the overwhelming demand, Google temporarily imposed restrictions on the use of Nano Banana to maintain service quality.
The key to Nano Banana’s popularity lies in its simplicity, speed, and user-friendly design, making image editing accessible for everyone. Additionally, the trending 3D figurine feature has played a crucial role in attracting widespread attention.
