PM Shehbaz directs fast-track completion of 100 MW GB solarization project

Islamabad (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the relevant authorities to speed up work on the 100MW solar power project in Gilgit-Baltistan and ensure that it is completed as soon as possible.

Chairing a review meeting on the project, the prime minister announced that the federal government would cover the entire cost of the 100MW solar energy initiative being launched for the benefit of the people of Gilgit-Baltistan.

PM Shehbaz also ordered independent third-party verification of the project to guarantee transparency and accountability throughout every stage of its execution.

During the meeting, officials briefed the prime minister on the federal government's ongoing solar energy plans for the region.

They informed participants that an 18MW solar power project has been planned for government buildings across Gilgit-Baltistan.

The meeting was told that solar installations for government buildings in the Gilgit and Diamer divisions are expected to be completed by December this year, while the solarization of public buildings in the Baltistan division is scheduled to be finished by October.

Officials further informed the meeting that work is already in progress on an 82MW household solarization project covering Gilgit, Skardu, Chilas and Khaplu.

The meeting was attended by Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Economic Affairs Minister Ahad Khan Cheema, Power Minister Sardar Owais Ahmed Khan Leghari, Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Minister Engineer Amir Muqam, along with other senior government officials.
