Islamabad (Staff Report): The Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday, bars Lahore High Court (LHC) to hear Zainab rape and murder case.

According to details, the SC has summoned the joint investigation team (JIT) probing the rape and murder of seven-year-old Zainab on Sunday.

Chief Justice Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar headed a three member bench to conduct the first and brief hearing of suo motu notice of Zainab rape and murder case.

The SC also directed Lahore High Court (LHC) from hearing Zainab case with a claim that High Courts don’t have suo motu power.

It is pertinent to remember that the seven-year-old girl, resident of Rod Kot area of Kasur, was kidnapped on her way to tuition centre on January 5. Her body was found in a garbage pile near Kashmir Chowk after four days.

According to postmortem report, the minor was strangled to death after being raped, adding that the girl was raped multiple times.

Later, there were protests in Kasur and continued for four days after what Lahore High Court (LHC) had taken a suo motu notice of the incident.
