Govt announces new timeline for 5G Spectrum auction

Islamabad (Web Desk):  The Government of Pakistan has announced a new timeline for the 5G spectrum auction.

Initially set for December 2025, the auction is now proposed to take place in the first quarter of 2026, between January and March.

According to the Frequency Allocation Board, a total of 606 MHz of spectrum will be available across six bands, including 700, 1800, 2100, 2300, 2600, and 3500 MHz.

This development comes after the NERA (National Economic Research Associates), a U.S.-based consulting firm, presented its detailed report to the Spectrum Advisory Committee. The report includes important recommendations on market readiness, pricing analysis, auction strategy, and licensing structure.

The Advisory Committee will soon submit its final recommendations to the Economic Coordination Committee and Federal Cabinet, after which the Ministry of IT and Telecom will issue formal policy guidelines for the auction.

Experts predict that the launch of 5G technology in Pakistan will bring a significant boost to high-speed internet, better connectivity, and digital economic activities in the country.
