World Youth Skills Day observed

Islamabad (Web Desk): World Youth Skills Day is being observed today (Tuesday) across the world, including in Pakistan.

This year’s theme highlights "Youth empowerment through AI and digital skills."

The day serves as a reminder of the growing importance of equipping young people with the technological and vocational tools they need to thrive in a rapidly evolving digital era.

In a message marking the occasion, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres emphasized the role of young people in shaping the digital landscape. “As AI reshapes our world, young people must be seen not just as learners – but as co-creators of a fairer digital future,” he stated.

The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) established July 15 as World Youth Skills Day in 2014, recognizing the essential role that skills training plays in helping youth access decent employment opportunities and fostering entrepreneurship.

As the Fourth Industrial Revolution continues to redefine economies through advancements in Artificial Intelligence, the United Nations underscores the need for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) systems to adapt accordingly. AI is not only transforming the way people live, work, and learn, but it also presents significant challenges if not adopted and implemented in an inclusive and equitable manner.

The UN has called upon the international community to acknowledge the strength and potential of youth as key agents of change, and to ensure they are equipped with the necessary AI and digital competencies to meet modern-day demands and contribute to a more just, inclusive, and sustainable world.
