PM Shehbaz orders swift relief operations in flood-hit KP, GB and AJK

Islamabad (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif convened an emergency session on Friday to assess the ongoing flood crisis unfolding in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Kashmir due to relentless monsoon rains and sudden cloudbursts.

During the meeting, the Chairman of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) provided a detailed update on the destruction caused by floods and rescue efforts underway in the worst-affected regions.

Expressing concern over the scale of the devastation, the Prime Minister directed NDMA to intensify coordination with provincial authorities and deploy all available resources to accelerate rescue and relief missions.

He instructed that essential aid supplies be transported without delay to affected communities via ground transport. Additionally, he emphasized the urgent evacuation of those stranded in flood-hit areas, including tourists, to ensure their safety.

Buner district in KP has borne the brunt of the disaster, where torrential rains and flooding triggered by a cloudburst have claimed 78 lives. The total number of fatalities in the province has now climbed to 194.

In a gesture of national solidarity, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has announced a provincial day of mourning to honor the victims and support grieving families.
