New Delhi (Web Desk): After setbacks in defense across land, air, and sea, India’s indigenous navigation system, NavIC, has reportedly suffered a severe technical failure in space.
According to Indian media reports, this development has dealt a blow to India’s global technological credibility.
Reports indicate that the atomic clock on a critical NavIC satellite has unexpectedly stopped functioning. The atomic clock is considered the heart of any navigation system, and without it, accurate positioning and timing are impossible.
This malfunction has caused the entire navigation network to fall below its operational threshold, significantly affecting its performance.
India’s space agency, ISRO, has faced recurring technical challenges with its programs. The PSLV C62 polar satellite launch vehicle failed during a recent launch from Andhra Pradesh. Since 2021, 16 Indian satellites have failed, marking this as the fifth major setback in India’s space program.
This serious technical failure undermines previous claims that NavIC serves as "India’s eyes in the sky." The setback places India’s strategic and defense navigation plans under severe pressure and has raised questions about the reliability of India’s indigenous space technology on a global level.
