Islamabad (Web Desk): The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued schedule for elections on 48 vacant seats of Senate.
According to the schedule, polling will be held on April 2 from 9:00am am to 4:00pm.
The candidates can file their nomination papers with the returning officers on March 15 and 16 while names of nominated candidates will be published on March 17.
Scrutiny of nomination papers will be conducted on March 19.
The returning officer’s deadline to file appeals against the acceptance or rejection of nomination papers is March 21.
The tribunal is scheduled to dispose of appeals by March 25.
Revised lists of candidates will be published on March 26.
The deadline for withdrawal of candidature is March 27.
As per the schedule, in the federal capital, members of the National Assembly will elect members of the Senate against one general seat and one seat for technocrats including Ulema.
Meanwhile, members of the four provincial assemblies will elect Senators for 7 general seats, 2 women seats, and 2 seats for technocrats including Ulema from each province, as well as one seat for non-Muslims from both Punjab and Sindh provinces.
These seats became vacant after expiration of the term of the incumbent members of the upper house of Parliament on March 11.
