Tehran (Web Desk): Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said that Iran has always been the guardian of the Strait of Hormuz and will continue to uphold that responsibility.
His remarks came in response to US President Donald Trump's statement about imposing transit fees on commercial vessels passing through the strategic waterway.
In a post on social media platform X, Araghchi said Trump was right in saying that whoever ensures the safe and peaceful passage of commercial ships through the Strait of Hormuz deserves to be compensated for the service.
POTUS is absolutely right. Whoever provides secure and safe passage of commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz should be compensated for this service.

Iran has always been the GUARDIAN of the Strait and will remain so FOREVER.
20% is of course too much. We will be fair
However, he added that a 20 percent transit fee would be excessive, stressing that Iran would take a fair and balanced approach to the matter.
