Defence Minister Khawaja Asif denounces JUI-F chief's 'irresponsible' statement

Islamabad (Web Desk): Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has denounced recent remarks made by Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, saying the comments amount to disrespect for the sacrifices rendered by the country's martyrs.

In a post on his social media handle X, Asif said Fazlur Rehman is both an experienced political figure and a widely respected religious leader, adding that individuals in such positions are expected to exercise greater care and responsibility in their public statements.

The defence minister said that associating the sacrifices of Pakistan's soldiers with the salaries they receive is both unjustified and deeply hurtful to the families of those who have lost their loved ones in the line of duty.

He maintained that no serviceman embraces martyrdom for financial reward, stressing that such sacrifices are inspired by ideology, faith, a profound sense of national duty and unwavering devotion to the motherland.

The defence minister said that Pakistan's war against terrorism continues, with members of the armed forces, personnel from other state institutions and civilians still laying down their lives in the ongoing fight against militancy.
