Govt launches National Power Sector Innovation Programme

Islamabad (Web Desk): The Ministry of Energy’s Power Division has launched Pakistan’s first National Power Sector Innovation Programme, marking a new institutional effort to encourage and develop innovative solutions for the country’s energy challenges.

The Innovation Hub has been established as the programme’s dedicated digital platform through which participants can present their ideas.

Addressing the launching ceremony, Minister for Power Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari said the initiative should not be viewed simply as a competition.

He described it as Pakistan’s first nationwide institutional mechanism specifically created for innovation in the power sector, with a focus on finding promising ideas, assessing their potential, providing expert guidance and helping turn them into workable solutions.

Leghari called on young Pakistanis to take part in the programme and contribute fresh ideas aimed at resolving some of the key issues affecting the country’s power industry.

The government plans to commit more than Rs1 billion to the initiative during the next three years. 
The funding will support mentorship, technical guidance, pilot projects and the expansion of successful innovations so they can be applied on a broader scale.

The programme is intended to take promising concepts beyond the research and idea stage by helping innovators develop, test and refine their proposals into practical solutions.

The objective of the initiative is to support the development of a power sector that is more reliable, efficient and environmentally sustainable.

The Innovation Hub will allow students, researchers, startups, young professionals and other aspiring innovators to submit their proposals and participate in a national effort focused on shaping Pakistan’s future energy landscape.

Under the programme, selected ideas will have the opportunity to progress through a structured process involving mentorship, technical assistance and pilot implementation.

Solutions that demonstrate potential can subsequently be developed for wider adoption and eventual deployment across the country.
