Trump’s ‘blockade’ policy faces major setback as UK refuses to join US operation

The British government has made it clear that it will not participate in any U.S.-led operation concerning the Strait of Hormuz that could further escalate tensions in the region.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer held a telephone conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron, during which they discussed the overall situation in the Middle East, with a particular focus on the rising tensions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz.

Prime Minister Starmer stated that the United Kingdom would not support any military action linked to a blockade of the strategic waterway, emphasizing the need to avoid further escalation.

He also stressed the importance of an immediate ceasefire in Lebanon to prevent the worsening of the humanitarian crisis.

Both leaders agreed that instead of unilateral actions, international shipping routes should be protected through coordinated diplomatic and security efforts, and reaffirmed the importance of respecting international maritime laws to ensure freedom of navigation.
