PTA issues warning to block unregistered mobile phones on local networks soon

Islamabad (Web Desk): The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued a stern warning that it will soon block all unregistered mobile phones from accessing local networks across the country. The authority has urged the public to immediately register their devices through the Device Identification, Registration, and Blocking System (DIRBS).

According to PTA, the use and trade of unregistered devices is not only illegal but such phones are often involved in smuggling, financial fraud, and cybercrimes, posing a serious threat to national security.

Officials emphasized that this move represents a significant step toward ensuring transparency and security within Pakistan’s telecom sector. Similar measures in many countries worldwide have successfully reduced mobile smuggling and cybercrime rates.

PTA has advised users to promptly check their device registration status via DIRBS. Failure to do so will result in disconnection from mobile networks and possible legal action.
