Islamabad (Staff Report/Agencies): Federal cabinet’s sub-committee meeting is under way to discuss an application filed by the PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif seeking removal of Nawaz’s name from the ECL on humanitarian grounds.
Federal Law Minister Dr Farogh Naseem is presiding over the meeting.
Special Assistant to the PM Imran on Accountability Shahzad Akbar, Nawaz Sharif’s personal medic Dr Adnan and a representative of Shehbaz Sharif, Atta Tarrar are attending the meeting.
Secretary health and head of the medical board, treating the former prime minister, is briefing the cabinet’s sub-committee over Nawaz’s health condition.
The recommendations of the sub-committee meeting will be later presented at the federal cabinet meeting today.
Earlier, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) refused to give an opinion on the issue, saying that the federal cabinet had the authority to remove anyone’s name from the no-fly list.
The accountability bureau said it had no objection to the government’s letter and neither had it given approval for it.
On Monday, Nawaz’ departure from the country has been delayed as the former premier’s name premier is yet to be removed from the Exit Control List (ECL).
According to sources, the PML-N supremo was set to depart for London via Doha on Monday.
