PM Shehbaz directs to introduce modern solid waste management system across Pakistan

Islamabad (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has instructed the concerned departments to roll out a modern, long-term and environmentally sustainable solid waste management system across the country in coordination with provincial governments, including Islamabad.
He issued these directions while chairing a review meeting on solid waste management held in Islamabad on Tuesday.

PM Shehbaz stressed that the government places high importance on promoting clean, eco-friendly and renewable energy sources as part of its sustainable development agenda.

During the meeting, he ordered the establishment of a special task force tasked with preparing a detailed plan for converting solid waste into energy.

It was also agreed that a comprehensive framework would be developed to generate electricity from waste materials.

PM Shehbaz said the task force should base its proposals on modern technology and international best practices, ensuring that global experience is fully utilized.

He further directed that the task force should include experts from the private sector as well as internationally recognized specialists to strengthen the quality and practicality of the recommendations.

The prime minister noted that producing energy from solid waste would help reduce Pakistan’s dependence on imported fuel and contribute to saving valuable foreign exchange.

PM Shehbaz also highlighted that an improved waste management system would play a significant role in reducing the country’s carbon emissions and overall environmental impact.

The meeting was attended by federal ministers, including Ahsan Iqbal, Ali Pervaiz Malik, Owais Leghari, advisers to the prime minister Rana Sanaullah and Muhammad Ali, along with senior officials from the relevant departments.
