Federal budget to help put economy on faster growth trajectory, says PM Shehbaz 

Islamabad (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday expressed the confidence that the federal budget for next financial year will help put the economy on a faster growth trajectory.

While presiding over a special session of the Federal Cabinet in Islamabad, convened to give approval to the budget proposals for the upcoming financial year, he remarked that the country’s economy remains steady despite ongoing challenges.

He further stated that this marks the third budget of the current administration, noting that in the two previous budgets, taxation measures were introduced in line with national needs and commitments with the International Monetary Fund, with the broader aim of stabilising the economy and expanding development opportunities.

PM Shehbaz added that the upcoming budget will include tax relief and other supportive measures designed to accelerate economic progress, which will be placed before the cabinet for final approval.

He also referred to his recent conversation with the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), saying she had acknowledged and appreciated Pakistan’s economic performance.

Shehbaz Sharif further shared that comprehensive discussions had been held with the Pakistan Peoples Party regarding the federal budget, while other coalition partners had extended full and unconditional support to the proposed financial plan.

He also mentioned consultations with provincial governments concerning additional fiscal needs of the federation and commended the provinces for their cooperative attitude, openness, and constructive engagement.

The Federal Finance Minister briefed cabinet members on the major components and structure of the budget during the meeting.

The Prime Minister expressed gratitude to all coalition partners for their complete backing of Budget 2026–27 and also thanked the International Monetary Fund for its continued support.

During the cabinet proceedings, federal ministers and ministers of state demonstrated their approval of the Prime Minister’s leadership by thumping their desks in support.He particularly acknowledged the contributions and backing of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party, the Balochistan Awami Party, and the Pakistan Muslim League (Q).

Earlier, in a post shared on X, PM Shehbaz stated that the budget had been prepared with dedication and sincerity, adding that the welfare of the people of Pakistan had been placed at the forefront of all priorities.
