Lahore (Staff Report/Agencies): Punjab Chief Minister Parvez Elahi managed to secure the confidence of 186 members, in a session that began on Wednesday and ended in the early hours of Thursday.
Lawmakers sitting on the treasury benches entrusted their trust in Elahi, with the opposition boycotting the session in protest after tearing up the agenda copies.
A total of 186 members of the provincial assembly (MPAs) voted in support of Elahi as the chief minister on a resolution moved by provincial ministers Mian Aslam Iqbal and Raja Basharat.
On Wednesday, the LHC adjourned Punjab CM Elahi’s case until Thursday 9am.
A five member bench headed by Justice Abid Aziz Sheikh, comprising Justice Chaudhry Muhammad Iqbal, Justice Tariq Saleem Sheikh, Justice Muzamil Akhtar Shabir, and Justice Asim Hafeez, heard the case.
During the today’s hearing, the court remarked that the governor can determine the date of a vote of confidence he is seeking from the chief minister in an ongoing session.
Elahi had challenged Governor Baligh Ur Rehman’s order to de-notifying the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leader as the Punjab chief minister.
The governor had de-notified CM Elahi last month after he failed to take a vote of confidence from the Punjab Assembly.
