Islamabad (Web Desk): Prime Minister Imran Khan has urged the international community and world bodies to "launch an initiative to give debt relief to developing countries" that are facing economic challenges in their fight against the novel coronavirus.
PM Khan said that "highly-indebted countries" are facing a "lack of fiscal space" that is inhibiting their efforts to prevent the coronavirus from spreading and, at the same time, providing relief to people.
The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan on Sunday rose to 5,171.
At least 2, 464 cases reported in Punjab, 1,411 in Sindh, 697 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 229 in Balochistan, 216 in Gilgit Baltistan, 119 in Islamabad, and 35 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
According to the National Command and Control Centre, the death toll related to COVID-19 has reached 88, while at least 1,026 patients have fully recovered.
The number of coronavirus cases have continued to soar despite the country being under a lockdown for the third consecutive week. The nation-wide lockdown has now been extended by two more weeks, till April 14.
The worldwide number of officially confirmed fatalities from the novel coronavirus now stands at above 102,000.
More than 1 million declared cases have been registered in 200 countries and territories since the epidemic first emerged in China in December. Of these cases, at least 300,000 are now considered recovered.
