(Saturday), including Pakistan, to raise awareness about population-related challenges and their impact on sustainable development.

The day aims to highlight key issues linked to population growth, including healthcare, poverty, human rights, gender equality and the need for effective planning to address future challenges.

The theme for World Population Day 2026 is “Realizing the hopes and aspirations of young people – today and for the future.” The theme focuses on empowering young people to make informed choices regarding their health, education and families, helping them build a better future while promoting balanced and sustainable population growth.

Observed every year on July 11, World Population Day was established in 1989 after the global population crossed the five-billion mark in 1987.

The initiative seeks to promote awareness about family planning, maternal health, women’s rights and social development.

The world’s population has now surpassed eight billion and experts predict it could reach nine billion by 2037.

Experts stress that understanding population trends and demographic changes is essential for policymakers to develop effective strategies and ensure resources meet public needs.

World Population Day provides an opportunity to reflect on population challenges and encourage collective efforts toward creating a more sustainable and equitable future.
