Renowned Urdu poet Qateel Shifai remembered on 25th death anniversary

Lahore (Web Desk): The 25th death anniversary of renowned Urdu poet, lyricist and writer Qateel Shifai is being observed today, with literary circles paying tribute to one of the most influential figures in Urdu literature and film music.

Born as Muhammad Aurangzeb, he later adopted the pen name Qateel Shifai, under which he gained widespread recognition and became a prominent name in Urdu poetry.

His unique style, emotional depth and ability to express human feelings through simple yet powerful words earned him a special place among literary figures.

Throughout his illustrious career, Qateel Shifai contributed greatly to Urdu poetry and the film industry.

He authored more than 20 collections of poetry and wrote over 900 songs for more than 200 films. Many of his songs became timeless classics and continue to be remembered by music lovers across generations.

Apart from his poetic achievements, Qateel Shifai also made significant contributions as a songwriter, bringing a distinctive blend of romance, philosophy and emotion to Pakistani cinema.

In recognition of his outstanding services to literature and arts, he was honoured with the prestigious Pride of Performance Award in 1994 by the Government of Pakistan.

Qateel Shifai passed away on July 11, 2001, in Lahore, leaving behind a rich literary legacy that continues to inspire poets, writers and readers.

His poetry remains a valuable part of Urdu literature, reflecting themes of love, emotions, social realities and the complexities of human life.
