India cannot stop or divert Pakistan's water, says DPM Dar

Kuala Lumpur (Web Desk): Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, has said that India lacks the capability to block or divert Pakistan's water resources.

Speaking at an event with the Pakistani community in Kuala Lumpur, Dar strongly condemned India's move to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty and announced a series of retaliatory measures taken by Pakistan.

Dar confirmed that in response to India's actions, Pakistan has closed its airspace to Indian aircraft, cancelled all visas issued to Indian nationals, and shut down the Wagah border crossing.

He emphasized that Pakistan’s National Security Committee has taken firm decisions to counter Indian aggression, including a clear rejection of India’s recent false-flag operation allegations in Pahalgam and the closure of the Attari border.

Discussing Pakistan’s broader diplomatic efforts, Dar noted that Pakistan continues to play a positive role on the global stage, citing the country’s recent success in securing a seat on the UN Security Council with a majority of 177 votes.

He also highlighted progress on the domestic economic front. Despite facing severe challenges in the past, he said, Pakistan has implemented key reforms, leading to a drop in the policy rate from 22% to 11%, and bringing inflation down to single digits.

On counterterrorism, Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to eradicating terrorism, reminding the audience of the heavy toll the country has paid — over 80,000 lives lost in the fight against terror.

Speaking to overseas Pakistanis, he praised them as true ambassadors of the nation and stressed the importance of their role in building Pakistan’s international image.

Dar also met with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, with both sides agreeing to further enhance bilateral cooperation. The Malaysian PM is expected to visit Pakistan in October 2025.
