Islamabad (Staff Report/Agencies): Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday approved increase in salaries of government employees.
The development comes after successful talks were held between the government committee and representatives of the federal government employees protesting for a raise in salaries.
According to sources, government’s negotiating team comprising Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid, Defence Minister Pervez Khattak and Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Ali Muhammad Khan called on the premier today (Thursday).
The sources said the government employees have been assured of a 20 percent increase in their salaries and the release of all arrested employees.
On Wednesday, Islamabad police fired tear gas at the protesting government employees when they were marching toward Parliament House.
The capital city authorities blocked the way towards the Parliament with containers when the protesters reached the “D chowk”.
As per the leadership of the protesters, they were demanding notification as they don’t want any verbal commitments. The protesters also encircled Federal Minister for Information Shibli Faraz.
