New York / Islamabad (Web Desk): United Nation (UN) Secretary-General António Guterres has welcomed the historic talks between the United States (US) and Iran being held in Islamabad, describing them as a significant breakthrough for global peace.
He praised Pakistan for playing a pivotal diplomatic role, saying the country has created a rare opportunity for the world to move beyond rising tensions.
In a statement, Guterres expressed strong optimism over the outcome of the Islamabad dialogue, noting that Pakistan had provided Washington and Tehran with a crucial diplomatic platform that the international community urgently needed.
He further stated that these efforts could help reduce ongoing regional tensions and open the door to ending long-standing hostilities.
The UN chief also moved beyond statements, announcing practical support for the initiative. He confirmed that UN special envoys were already present in the region to actively assist and support these diplomatic efforts, underscoring the importance the global body places on the success of the negotiations.
His remarks have further reinforced Pakistan’s position that Islamabad has emerged as a “center of peace.”
Foreign policy experts note that when the UN chief publicly acknowledges and praises a country’s diplomatic role in such a manner, it signals that the country is increasingly being viewed as an indispensable player in global peace efforts.
