Govt seeks three-day extension in talks with JI over petroleum relief

Islamabad (Web Desk): The second round of negotiations between the government and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) over demands for the withdrawal of the petroleum levy and relief for consumers on petroleum products has concluded.

A JI delegation, led by its negotiating committee, held talks with the government’s team as part of the second phase of discussions.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, JI Deputy Emir and member of the negotiating committee Liaquat Baloch said the government side presented its position, while the JI reiterated its demand for providing genuine relief to the public on petroleum products and abolishing the petroleum levy.

According to Liaquat Baloch, the JI presented its position before the government in the form of six key points, with each demand supported by detailed arguments.

He said the government’s negotiating team was unable to reject the arguments put forward by the JI.
Baloch further said the government committee had sought an additional three days to consider the party’s demands.

The government delegation also requested the JI to postpone its planned long march towards Islamabad for another three days.

Liaquat Baloch maintained that the JI remained committed to securing meaningful relief for consumers on petroleum products and the removal of the petroleum levy.
