Six Afghans killed in border clash with Iranian forces

Tehran (Web Desk): Iranian border guards have allegedly killed six Afghan migrants who attempted to enter Sistan-Baluchestan province on September 8 through the Golshan crossing.

Reports indicate that more than 300 Afghans were trying to cross when Iranian forces targeted around 120 of them with gunfire and grenade launchers.

The assault left several wounded, some in critical condition, while at least 40 others were taken into custody.

According to the human rights group Halvash, survivors recognized a number of those injured, including Ehsanullah Tajik, Nasrullah Barkzai, Hezbullah Barkzai, Wai Barkzai, and Basheer Ahmad Barkzai. Neither Tehran nor Kabul has issued an official reaction so far.

Incidents of this nature are not new. In October 2024, Iranian troops similarly opened fire on Afghan migrants, resulting in multiple deaths and injuries. International organizations have repeatedly voiced concerns over the recurring violence along the border.

Iran is currently home to roughly 780,000 registered Afghan refugees, but its treatment of undocumented Afghans remains severe.

The UN migration agency has reported that in 2025 alone, more than 1.5 million Afghans have been expelled from the country.
