Punjab govt approves major reforms, domicile system to be fully digitalized

Lahore (Web Desk): A key meeting of the Punjab Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, has approved several important decisions aimed at improving public convenience.

The meeting decided to abolish the traditional manual system of domicile issuance and fully convert it into a digital online system. After this change, citizens will no longer need to visit government offices repeatedly to obtain their domicile certificates.

Under the new system, residents across Punjab will be able to submit applications online from home and receive their domicile in digital form. The move is expected to make the process easier, faster, and more transparent.

The cabinet also approved a revision in the domicile fee, setting it at 550 rupees. The decision aims to standardize fees and reduce the financial burden on the public.

In addition, the government approved the establishment of a “Punjab Cyber Crime Unit” to address rising social media crimes and child harassment cases.

This special unit will focus on tackling online harassment, particularly ensuring swift action for the protection of children.

Officials stated that the digital system will help eliminate corruption and the influence of middlemen, while also improving transparency and efficiency in public services.
