DPM Dar urges swift release of Pakistani hostages in call with Somali FM

Islamabad (Web Desk): Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Tuesday spoke over the phone with Somalia’s Foreign Minister Abdisalam Ali to review ongoing efforts for the safe release of Pakistani citizens held on the hijacked vessel MT Honour 25.

A Foreign Office spokesperson said in a statement that Pakistan has remained in continuous contact with Somali authorities since the ship was seized off the Somali coast in April.

During the conversation, the Deputy Prime Minister expressed Pakistan’s deep concern over the situation and highlighted the need for the hostages’ safety, swift release, and their secure return home.

The Somali Foreign Minister assured full support and reaffirmed his government’s commitment to working towards the earliest possible release of the detainees.

Both sides agreed to stay closely connected and continue coordination until the matter is resolved.

They further welcomed the positive progress in Pakistan-Somalia relations. The Somali minister also appreciated Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts and constructive engagement on regional issues.
