ECP dismisses disqualification reference against PTI Senator Saifullah Abro

Islamabad (Web Desk/Agencies): The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday ruled in favour of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senator Saifullah Abro, dismissing a reference that sought his disqualification.

The reference was filed by Senators Shahadat Awan and Majid Mahmood, who argued that Senator Abro was not eligible for his position on the technocrat seat due to a pending case with the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

The petitioners also alleged that Abro had provided false information about his assets, agricultural income, and the details of his dependents in the affidavit he submitted, including concealing land ownership by his children.

In response, Senate Chairman Yousaf Raza Gillani forwarded the matter to the ECP, asking the electoral body to assess whether Abro's actions warranted disqualification, based on the provisions of Article 63 of the Constitution.

The case was reviewed by a three-member ECP bench, led by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja.

Delivering the reserved verdict on Thursday, the ECP declared Senator Abro eligible for the technocrat seat and dismissed the petition.
