UN pledges to continue support for Pakistan in fight against drugs

Islamabad (Web Desk): The United Nations has pledged its continued support for Pakistan in its fight against drugs, emphasizing that the country cannot be left alone in this battle.

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) has officially recognized Pakistan's efforts in combating drug trafficking and has acknowledged its role as a frontline country in this global fight.

UNODC representative in Pakistan, Troels Wester, stated that the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) of Pakistan has made significant strides in tackling the drug problem.

He further noted that Pakistan has faced rising challenges due to the shift in Afghanistan from poppy and heroin production to the establishment of synthetic drug laboratories. Despite this, Pakistan's role in curbing drug trafficking has been vital.

Troels Wester also highlighted that the UNODC has released a comprehensive roadmap for addressing drug-related issues globally, with Pakistan's contributions being a key focus.

He stressed that the international community's collaboration with Pakistan is crucial to effectively combat the growing menace of drugs.

In the past year, Pakistan has seized 365 metric tons of narcotics and chemicals, demonstrating its ongoing commitment to the fight against drug trafficking.

The UNODC representative reiterated that Pakistan's involvement in this fight is central to global efforts, particularly in countering organized crime and evolving drug smuggling strategies.

The UN has reaffirmed its support for Pakistan's anti-drug efforts, promising continued cooperation to help the country achieve its goals in drug control.
