President, PM meeting: Govt, PPP agree on most budget proposals, sources say

Islamabad (Web Desk): A key meeting between President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has resulted in significant progress on budget-related matters, with the government and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) reportedly agreeing on most of each other’s budget proposals.

According to sources, the meeting held at the Presidency brought together senior members of both sides to discuss the federal budget and other important national issues.

The government delegation was led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and included Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, federal ministers, and senior officials from the Ministry of Finance. The PPP delegation was headed by party chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

Sources said that both sides reached a broad consensus on the majority of budget proposals, paving the way for smoother approval of the upcoming federal budget. PPP has also reportedly given a “green signal” for budget approval, although some points will still be reviewed by technical committees.

The meeting also included discussions on political and administrative matters, including the situation in Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Warm exchanges were also reported during informal moments, including remarks exchanged regarding the political campaign in Gilgit-Baltistan elections.

The development is being seen as a positive step toward continued political cooperation between the ruling coalition partners ahead of key fiscal decisions.
