Sargodha (Web Desk): Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Wednesday visited Sargodha and distributed Honhar scholarship cheques to 1,588 deserving students at the University of Sargodha.
The university officials honoured Maryam Nawaz with a formal guard of honour, acknowledging her visit.
Students from several universities in the region, including Thal University in Bhakkar, Mianwali University, and Sargodha University, were awarded the scholarships under the Honhar initiative.
Addressing the gathering, Maryam Nawaz emphasized the government's commitment to providing students with the best educational opportunities, free from any form of bias.
She highlighted that over 30,000 Honhar scholarships had been awarded throughout Punjab, aiming to modernize the education system and improve the learning environment for all students, regardless of their institution.
The Punjab CM further stated that the Honhar scholarship program was not limited to public universities but was inclusive of private institutions as well.
She said that that January 2025 had been designated as a month of educational welfare, focusing on the needs of students.
The Punjab CM also announced plans to distribute more than one lakh laptops to eligible students across Punjab in the coming year, a move she said would further enhance the learning experience.
Maryam Nawaz also spoke about the importance of investing in quality education, criticizing the previous government for sowing division and neglecting educational progress.
She urged the youth, who make up a significant portion of the country's population, to focus on acquiring modern education to effectively address the challenges of the global landscape.
Provincial Minister for School and Higher Education Rana Sikandar Hayat, Member National Assembly & Parliamentary Secretary for Trade and Commerce Zulfiqar Ali Bhatti, Provincial Minister for Usher & Zakat Punjab Rana Munawar Ghous Khan, Provincial Minister for Communication Sohaib Ahmad Bharth and other party leaders were also present.
