Fire erupts at factory in Karachi's Landhi export processing zone

Karachi  (Web Desk): A fire that broke out at a factory in the Landhi Export Processing Zone intensified and went out of control, prompting emergency teams to launch a major firefighting operation.

According to reports, thick smoke generated by the blaze affected several workers at the factory. Two male employees and a female worker reportedly became unwell after being exposed to the smoke.

The three workers were provided with immediate medical assistance before being shifted to a hospital for further treatment.

Rescue 1122 officials said five fire engines were taking part in efforts to bring the blaze under control. Police and Rangers personnel were also present at the scene and assisting rescue teams in managing the emergency and supporting the ongoing operation.

Sources said a substantial quantity of used clothing, commonly known as landa clothes, was stored inside the factory.

The presence of the highly combustible material was believed to have contributed to the intensity and rapid spread of the fire.

The incident also drew the attention of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, who took notice of the fire and sought a detailed report from the Karachi commissioner.

The chief minister directed the relevant authorities to take all necessary measures to protect the lives and property of everyone present inside the factory. He also instructed the concerned departments to ensure that the rescue and firefighting operation was carried out efficiently while prioritising the safety of workers and other people at the site.
