Canada prioritises skilled workers for express entry permanent residency

Ottawa (Web Desk): Canada has announced that it will continue giving priority to highly skilled and qualified professionals for permanent residency through its Express Entry immigration system, with greater focus on candidates whose expertise aligns with the country's labour market needs.

According to the Canadian government, invitations to apply (ITAs) under the category-based selection system are being issued on a priority basis to applicants possessing skills that match the country's current workforce and economic requirements.

The government said the initiative is designed to address labour shortages across key sectors, fill critical vacancies with qualified professionals, and provide eligible candidates with a faster and more efficient pathway to permanent residency.

Priority occupations include healthcare professionals such as doctors, nurses, medical specialists, researchers, and social services workers, along with experts in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

Teachers, skilled workers in construction and infrastructure, transport professionals, supply chain and logistics specialists, as well as senior managers with Canadian work experience, are also among the preferred categories.

In addition, Canada has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening French-speaking communities outside Quebec by giving preference to candidates with strong French-language proficiency.

Immigration experts say applicants can significantly improve their chances of receiving an invitation by enhancing their Express Entry profiles and ensuring they meet the eligibility criteria for one of the priority categories.
