Lahore (Staff Report): The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday directed Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to withhold victory notification of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Faisal Vawda.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif had moved the court against the results of NA-249 Karachi constituency.
The SHC issued notices to the Election Commission of Pakistan and sought replies by August 10.
The former Punjab CM, in his petition, requested for a vote recount in the constituency where he lost to PTI’s Faisal Vawda. The petition stated that a vote recount should be ordered as there were massive irregularities and in the constituency.
The PML-N president pleaded that Faisal Vawda only won from NA-249 owing to irregularities in the vote count process.
On Sunday, Shehbaz Sharif had also requested the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to conduct a recount in NA-249.
PTI’s Faisal Vawda won against Shehbaz from the constituency during the general elections on July 25. Vawda had received 35,344 votes while Shehbaz bagged 34,626 votes.
