Swabi (Web Desk): Captain Karnal Sher Khan Shaheed (Nishan-e-Haider), celebrated as one of the greatest heroes of the 1999 Kargil War, was remembered across Pakistan on Sunday as the nation observed his 27th martyrdom anniversary with deep respect and gratitude.
Born in 1970 in Swabi district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Captain Karnal Sher Khan distinguished himself through remarkable courage during the Kargil conflict.
While confronting heavily outnumbering enemy forces, he led his men from the front with exceptional resolve and determination. Remaining steadfast in the defence of the homeland, he embraced martyrdom, leaving behind an enduring legacy of bravery, honour and selfless devotion to the nation.
He was martyred on July 6, 1999, and was posthumously awarded the Nishan-e-Haider, Pakistan's highest military honour for gallantry.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif paid tribute to the national hero, acknowledging his unparalleled courage, unwavering resolve and supreme sacrifice while defending the country.
In his message, President Zardari said Captain Karnal Sher Khan's sacrifice remains one of the brightest chapters in Pakistan's history and will continue to inspire future generations.
PM Shehbaz, in a message shared on X, said the martyr's timeless example of loyalty, dedication and ultimate sacrifice continues to live in the hearts of the people of Pakistan.
The Pakistan Armed Forces and the Services Chiefs also honoured the Nishan-e-Haider recipient, praising his extraordinary bravery, steadfast commitment and unmatched sacrifice in the service of the nation.
In a statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that Captain Karnal Sher Khan Shaheed's immortal sacrifice continues to inspire generations of Pakistanis and remains a timeless beacon of courage, patriotism, and steadfast commitment to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Pakistan.
The military’s media wing said that the people and Armed Forces of Pakistan reaffirm their enduring resolve to uphold the ideals for which Captain Karnal Sher Khan Shaheed laid down his life, ensuring that his legacy will forever endure in the nation's history.

Religious scholars also paid glowing tribute to Captain Karnal Sher Khan Shaheed on the occasion of his martyrdom anniversary.
They described him as an everlasting symbol of courage, selflessness and patriotism whose life continues to inspire future generations.
They said those who sacrificed their lives in defence of the homeland are a source of immense pride for the nation, adding that the sacrifices of Pakistan's martyrs are a sacred national trust that can never be forgotten.
They further noted that the martyrs' enduring legacy serves as a powerful foundation of the country's security, sovereignty and national honour.
A commemorative ceremony was also held in Swabi, where Inspector General Frontier Corps (FC) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (North), Major General Rao Imran Sartaj, laid a floral wreath at the grave of the Kargil hero on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff and the Chief of Defence Staff. He also offered Fateha at the mausoleum to honour the fallen soldier's everlasting sacrifice.
