India must comply with Indus Waters Treaty: FO

Islamabad (Web Desk): Foreign Office Spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to the safety and welfare of its citizens during a weekly press briefing held on Friday. He emphasized that security agencies continue to carry out targeted precision operations along the country’s borders to neutralize threats, including those posed by the extremist group Fitna-al-Khwarij.

These operations, Shafqat Ali Khan noted, are grounded in “credible, actionable intelligence,” and are executed with meticulous planning.

Pakistan’s approach toward Afghanistan remains rooted in respect for its sovereignty, he added. The spokesperson reiterated Pakistan’s preference for diplomacy, even as the country grapples with threats emerging from militant hideouts across the border.

“We urge Afghan authorities to ensure their territory is not misused as a launchpad for terrorist activity,” he stressed, highlighting that groups like Fitna-al-Khwarij pose a shared threat to regional peace.
Discussing the Indus Water Treaty, he raised concerns over limited data sharing by India regarding flood conditions, noting that the established channels—including the Indus Water Commissioner—haven’t been utilized fully.

“We expect India to fully respect and comply with all elements of the Indus Water Treaty,” he asserted.
Turning to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, Shafqat Ali Khan condemned the recent Israeli strike on Al-Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, which killed at least 21 people, including four journalists and a rescue worker.

“This callous attack on a medical facility, and the continued targeting of civilians and journalists, represents a grave violation of international humanitarian and human rights laws,” he declared.
