Over 25,000 Afghan nationals arrested in Turkiye during 8 months amid crackdown on illegal migrants: report

Kabul (Web Desk): More than 25,000 Afghan nationals have been detained in Türkiye during the first eight months of this year for reportedly staying in the country without valid legal residency documents.

According to Afghan media, Turkish authorities detained nearly 95,000 undocumented migrants between January and August, with Afghan citizens accounting for the largest share of those taken into custody.

Turkish officials said the Afghan nationals detained during the period lacked the necessary documents permitting them to legally reside in the country.

Meanwhile, figures released by the United Nations (UN) indicate that more than 13,000 Afghans were deported from Turkiye in the first five months of the year.
