Talal Chaudhry calls for stronger bank account security, identity verification system

Islamabad (Web Desk): Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry has stressed the need to strengthen security and verification mechanisms linked to bank accounts to prevent fraudulent and suspicious activities.

In a statement, Talal Chaudhry said financial institutions should not simply wait for updates from the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) before verifying the identities of bank account holders.

He called on the State Bank of Pakistan to establish a more effective and comprehensive mechanism for the identification and verification of all account holders.

The minister also emphasized the need for telecommunications companies to improve their systems for verifying customers’ identities and ensuring the security of their personal information.

According to him, stronger coordination between identification and verification systems is essential to make the process more secure and reliable.

Talal Chaudhry explained that if an individual’s identity and relevant information are recorded and verified at five different points, the same information should also be traceable at a sixth point.

He said greater connectivity between databases and verification mechanisms could help authorities identify suspicious or unusual activity at an early stage.

He stressed that an integrated identification system involving financial institutions, telecom companies and other relevant platforms would improve security and make it more difficult for individuals to misuse identities or carry out fraudulent activities.
