At least 36 dead, thousands affected as Cyclone 'Bualoi' devastates Vietnam

Hanoi/Vietnam (Web Desk): A powerful cyclone named Bualoi has caused widespread destruction across Vietnam, leaving at least 36 people dead, more than 150 injured, and over 20 individuals reported missing. The storm has severely disrupted normal life, triggering flooding that has submerged schools, offices, and roads, while also cutting off electricity to thousands of homes.

According to government officials, the cyclone’s impact has been catastrophic. Floodwaters inundated many areas, leading to paralysis in transportation and communication networks. Emergency services are struggling to reach affected communities due to the extensive damage caused by the storm and flooding.

The disaster has inflicted serious damage on the country’s infrastructure and agriculture. Over 200,000 residential units have suffered damage ranging from minor to severe. In addition, more than 50,000 acres of agricultural land have been affected, threatening the livelihoods of farmers and the country’s food supply chain.

The financial toll of the cyclone is estimated at around 436 million US dollars, posing a significant setback to Vietnam’s economy. Recovery efforts are underway, with government agencies coordinating relief operations, including rescue missions, distribution of aid, and restoration of utilities.

Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant as weather forecasts predict potential secondary impacts, including continued heavy rainfall and localized flooding in some areas.

The Vietnamese government has also called for international assistance to support the recovery and rebuilding process as the country grapples with the aftermath of one of the most destructive cyclones in recent history.
