Worldwide reactions pour in after US military operation against Venezuela

New York/ Washington (Web Desk): Global concern intensified on Friday following reported US military action against Venezuela, prompting swift diplomatic reactions and calls for emergency consultations at the United Nations (UN).

According to US President Donald Trump, the US military carried out the operation, resulting in the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife. Following this development, reactions have been pouring in from countries around the world.

Colombian President Gustavo Petro urged the immediate convening of an emergency session of the UN Security Council, stressing the need for a prompt and thorough assessment of the rapidly evolving situation.

He warned that escalating tensions could have serious consequences for regional stability and international peace if left unaddressed.

Cuba strongly condemned the US action, describing it as an act of “state terrorism” and calling for firm international resistance to what it termed a violation of international norms.

Similar criticism came from Iran, Russia and China, all of which denounced the strikes and reaffirmed their support for Venezuela’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry described the action as a serious breach of Venezuela’s sovereignty and an infringement on its territorial integrity, condemning it in the strongest terms.

The UN, reacting to the developments, underscored the importance of adherence to international law and urged all parties to exercise restraint.

The global body emphasized that immediate diplomatic efforts are essential to prevent further escalation and to safeguard international peace and security.
