Lahore (Staff Report): The Pakistan Super League (PSL)’s newly added franchise ‘Multan Sultans’ will reunite the legendary pair of Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis, ESPNCricinfo reported.
According to details, the Sultan of Swing Waqar Younis will be the mentor and head coach of the franchise, while Wasim the Bhurewala Express Akram will take the role of cricket operations director after deciding to leave Islamabad United.
The official signing of the agreement is expected to take place in the third week of the running month of August in Karachi.
The former left-arm pacer Wasim Akram parted ways with Islamabad United, who won the first edition of PSL under his mentorship. However, in the second edition, the franchise was hit with a big blow of spot-fixing scandal and two of their players, Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif, were suspended for being allegedly involved in corruption.
On the other hand, Multan has taken Waqar Younis on board as the coach and mentor, who stepped down from the post of Pakistan head coach after World T20 2016 debacle.
Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis have been arguably known as the most lethal bowling pair of cricket history. They hunted 559 batsmen together in 61 Tests with Wasim taking 282 wickets while Waqar striking 277 times.
Only the West Indian duo of Courtney Walsh and Curtley Ambrose and the English pair of James Anderson and Stuart Broad have been more successful than the Two W’s.
