Defence Secretary Hegseth names General Christopher LaNeve as acting US army chief 

Washington (Web Desk): The Trump administration has initiated a sweeping shake-up at the Pentagon as US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth has dismissed Army Chief of Staff General Randy George, appointing Vice Chief of Staff Christopher LaNeve as the acting Army Chief in his place.

According to American media reports, Secretary Hegseth explained the decision by stating that the administration requires an Army Chief who can fully implement President Trump’s military vision and strategic objectives.

General Randy George had been appointed Army Chief in September 2023 during former President Joe Biden’s tenure, with his term originally set to continue until 2027.

General George previously served as a senior military assistant to former Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, whom the current administration views as a symbol of the "old guard." He is widely regarded as an experienced and highly skilled military officer, with an extensive record of service.

He participated in the First Gulf War and has commanded forces in both the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts. His professional expertise was a key reason he was chosen for the top military post under the Biden administration.

International analysts note that while the US continues to pursue regime change ambitions abroad, particularly in countries like Iran, it now faces unprecedented internal changes and a crisis of confidence within its own military leadership.

The move is widely seen as an effort to restructure the Pentagon’s internal hierarchy and align it more closely with President Trump’s political agenda.
